Guidelines for submitting original artwork to BRAF

General:

- BRAF may exclude any works not professional in appearance. - All work must be for sale. - There is a 35% commission on works sold. - Work must be submitted according to schedules provided in advance by BRAF. - When a piece of art sells, artists may replace that piece of work with a new work that meets guidelines for presentation. - Art work is expected to be picked up promptly at the end of each show. Works left for more than 6 months after a show's closing become the property of BRAF.

Presentation specs for wall art*:

- Work must be ready to hang and display -- preferably with eye hooks & wire. Do not use saw-tooth hangers, clips or plastic frames as these materials have proven to be unreliable. - Artists may submit work meeting the following size/quantity guidelines: -- A maximum of TWO (2) pieces to be displayed on gallery walls that together shall not exceed 750 square inches (including framing)  -- OR one (1) piece that shall not be more than 1300 square inches (including framing).  -- Sculpture/Other: A maximum of TWO free-standing works that shall be stable and manageable in size/weight.

Presentation specs for Bin art:

- Each member may submit up to SIX (6) pieces of original or reproduction art for display in the art bins. - Each piece submitted must be of a different image. - Maximum size is 24" x 30" - Minimum price is $20 - Each piece must be neat and professional in appearance. - Each piece must be matted or thin panels (no stretchers or cradled boards) and wrapped in clear sleeves. - Work must be clearly labeled with artist's name, title of work, medium & price. - When a piece of bin art sells, replacements are welcome.

Liability:

The Boothbay Region Art Foundation (BRAF), its Officers, Trustees, Staff or any member of its committees are not responsible for any damage or theft.

*Note: Wall Art specifications are for "Member Shows." BRAF may add other exhibits to the schedule that may have different specifications that will be clearly detailed on the submission form for that particular exhibit.

FAQs (frequently asked questions)

Q: When do memberships need to be renewed? A: All memberships are valid for the calendar year, January – December. Come January, all memberships are up for renewal. Q: Are your exhibits juried? A: No, BRAF's regular exhibits are not juried. We host one juried exhibit in the fall called ARTinME. Q: I’m not sure how to price my work. How do I know if I’m charging too much/too little? A: When you drop off work, we can have someone review your pricing. Q: How do I know when a piece of my work sells? A: A gallery representative will call the artist the same day a piece sells and let them know they can bring in another piece. Q: Can I carry over Bin Art to the next show? A: Absolutely. We will keep Bin Art on display until it sells, or you decide to replace it. Q: How soon will I get paid for sold artwork? A: Artists typically receive their share of a sale (65%) by mailed check within 2-3 weeks. Q: I can’t deliver or pick up art on the specified dates. Can I do it on a different date? A: We will make every effort to accommodate artists who can’t make a scheduled pick-up/drop off day. We ask that you make arrangements in advance by emailing the gallery (brafgallery@gmail.com) or calling us at (207) 633-2703.

Become a Volunteer

Did you know that most gallery activities, shows, and events are the result of volunteer efforts?  It's fun and fulfilling to volunteer at BRAF.

We are looking for a group of dedicated volunteers to:

  • Work as gallery attendants.

  • Help hang shows.

  • Host receptions & openings.

  • Lead "Take Part in Art" events.

  • Assist with technical support.

We will hold training sessions to make sure volunteers are knowledgeable and comfortable in their chosen role. Participants can help out when it is convenient for them to do so.
