Instructor: Wayne Robbins Medium: Wood Carving Dates & Times: This workshop is 3 sessions: Thursday, May 21, 2026; 10am - Noon Thursday, May 28, 2026 : 10am - Noon Thursday, June 4, 2026: 10am - Noon Class fee: $100 for BRAF members; $110 for non-members Materials fee: $20 to be paid to the instructor on the day of workshop. Skill level: Any Class size: 8 students, adults only Register by May 20th, 2026 “Wood was one of the first sculpture mediums and is still chosen for its form, texture and warmth,” says Wayne Robbins. Learn the fundamentals of wood carving in this 3-part workshop which will cover the basics of wood carving, tools of the trade including blade techniques, choosing the right piece of wood, designing your piece and reading the grain. No previous woodworking/wood carving experience is necessary. You will learn safety techniques and will receive step-by-step instruction along the way. All tools and materials will be provided. About the instructor: Born and raised on the coast of Maine, Robbins was inspired as a youth to capture the essence of nature in wood. He has enjoyed teaching the art of woodcarving for many years and his wood sculptures can be found in galleries and collections around the world – including here in Maine. Through his teaching and art, Robbins seeks to creatively inspire others to share his passion for the sea and inspire sustainable practices to protect and preserve Earth’s fragile ecosystems. www.waynerobbins.com
