Class Description

Instructor: Andre Benoit Medium: Assemblage Date: Friday, July 10, 2026 Time: 1 - 4 pm Class fee: $60 for BRAF members; $70 for non-members Materials: All materials are included in the class fee. Participants are encouraged to bring their own glue guns, if they have them. We will have some on hand to share. Skill level: Any Class size: 8 students, adults only Register by July 3, 2026 Who knew that discarded piano keys could become an owl's tail feathers? That an old chair back could manifest as a coy lock of ladies hair? Seeing the potential in these mundane, throw-away objects, artist Andre Benoit transforms salvaged wood and scavenged materials into inventive sculptures. Now it's your turn to flex your imagination. Join Benoit for "No Peeking," an introductory assemblage class where each participant is provided a small wooden drawer loaded with objects from which to conjure a creation. "No peeking" at your neighbors' work will encourage individual exploration of an object's potential and a diverse array of finished works. About Andre Benoit: Hailing from Cape Elizabeth, ME, Andre Benoit has been a plein air painter all his life, feeding his artistic aspirations while also practicing as a physician in Boothbay for 35 years. After retiring, Benoit focused his attention to working in the 3-dimensional stylings of assemblage, which he creates from reclaimed materials he finds in recycling centers, scrap from shipyards and the flotsam and jetsam found along Maine's coast. Benoit continues to paint, primarily in the presence of his partner, sharing the energy of their artistic connection through painting. Learn more about him at his website: www.andrebenoit-art.com.
