Class Description

Instructor: Elizabeth “Libby" Reed Medium: Drawing/Painting Dates: August 12th & 13th, 2026 Time: 10 am - 4pm (w/break for lunch) Class fee: $165 for BRAF members/$185 for non-members Materials: Drawing: Sketchbook, pencils, eraser Painting: Zorn palette: Titanium White, Cadmium Red Light, Yellow Ochre, Ivory Black Skill Level: Beginners and beyond Class size: 8 Register by: August 5th, 2026 This two-day workshop introduces the anatomy of the head and neck in space. Expressing your own image challenges you not only to observe, but also to express the changes in your life. You are the best and most present model — a great way to practice portraiture. Materials can be as complex as you wish. Sketching with pencils, painting in watercolors, acrylics, or oils are welcome. Form is the focus of this workshop, so we will keep materials simple with a limited palette. We start with sketches and evolve into experimentation. You will experience multiple examples of self-portraiture solutions from many artists. It is psychologically interesting to see what artists decide to include or exclude to control how they are seen by others. This is a fantastic way to practice your life drawing and painting skills. About Elizabeth Reed: "Libby" was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up outside Chicago. She studied painting and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, following two years at the University of Kansas. Libby earned her BFA with highest honors in Illustration and graphic design at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Learn more at her website, www.elizabethreed.net.
