Woodcarving I & II with Wayne Robbins

Class Description

Instructor: Wayne Robbins Medium: Woodcarving Dates & Times: This workshop is 3 sessions: Thursday, September 10th, 10:30am - 12:30pm Thursday, September 17th, 10:30am - 12:30pm Thursday, September 24th, 10:30am - 12:30pm Class fee: $100 for BRAF members; $110 for non-members Materials fee: $20 to be paid to the instructor on the day of workshop. Skill level: Beginners and students who have completed Intro to Woodcarving Class size: 8 students, adults only “Wood was one of the first sculpture mediums and is still chosen for its form, texture and warmth,” says Wayne Robbins. Learn the fundamentals of woodcarving in this 3-part workshop which will cover the basics , tools of the trade including blade techniques, choosing the right piece of wood, designing your piece and reading the grain. In this workshop Woodcarving I and II will be taught concurrently. For beginners, no previous woodworking/woodcarving experience is necessary. You will learn safety techniques and receive step-by-step instruction along the way. Students participating in Woodcarving II will continue to hone the skills developed in Wood Carving I, working on larger pieces. All tools and materials will be provided. About the instructor: Born and raised on the coast of Maine, Robbins was inspired as a youth to capture the essence of nature in wood. He has enjoyed teaching the art of woodcarving for many years and his wood sculptures can be found in galleries and collections around the world – including here in Maine.
