BRAF NEWS and EVENTS!

New Scholarships Available to ART MAJORS Continuing Their Educations -  Attention, post-secondary Visual Art students from the Boothbay region!  An art scholarship of $500 awaits a deserving student currently enrolled in  post-high school visual art classes leading to a degree in commercial art, art education or fine art.  The Boothbay Region Art Foundation is looking for a qualified student to receive this scholarship.  The scholarship will be funded by proceeds from ART in the SQUARE exhibit that is held after Thanksgiving into the New Year each year.  If you know of a qualifying student, let them know about this opportunity and have them submit an application.  To apply, the student needs to submit his or her name, address, email and phone number, year graduated from BRHS, proof of current enrollment, statement of the degree you are working and any community activities,  co-curricular activities, professional organizations or service activities in which you participate.  In addition, please submit a CD with five examples of your art work.  Submit the requirements to the Boothbay Region Art Foundation and the address listed on this website.   The deadline for submission is March 31, 2014.

New Addition to Website: Video Painter’s Tips:         BRAF artists Tony Van Hasselt and Mark Mellor created a number of videos in which they share “painter’s tips” gleaned from their years of experience as successful artists.  These painter’s tips cover a range of topics and give you a chance to see the artists applying the tips and techniques they are describing.  Sorry, but the format of these videos will not work on your mobile or Apple devices…  But if you have a PC, click on the links below to view the Painter’s Tips videos:

Winter Hours:        The gallery is not scheduled to be open during the winter months, but when June Rose or a volunteer is there, visitors are welcome to come in.  The ART in the SQUARE 12×12″ works are still up and we sell them until the show is taken down around the end of February.  Tuesday mornings during Life Drawing Class, the gallery is often open so it’s a good time to drop by!

UNCLAIMED ARTWORK:        We have some artwork that has been in the gallery for years.  We have made many appeals to the owners to pick up this work.   We will attempt to contact the owners of the art one more time, but as of March 1, 2014, we will begin selling or discarding this work and the proceeds will go to BRAF.  If you have a piece of work, PLEASE make arrangements to pick it up ASAP!  In the future, artwork left in the gallery 60 days after the pickup date will become the property of BRAF unless you contact us to arrange an alternate arrangement.

Reminder!  Don’t forget to renew your membership for the upcoming year!
