The Boothbay Region Art Foundation, an inclusive, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has been a cornerstone of this region's artistic community for over 60 years. Only proceeds from member art sales, and private/corporate donations, allow BRAF to continue its non-profit, mission of supporting and promoting youth and adult artistic endeavors in the Boothbay area community. Please support our generous Sponsors:

  • BRAF's Goes BIG with ARTinME 2024: a juried exhibit showcasing Maine artists working in Large Format: BRAF unveils its annual juried ARTinME show, spotlights large format works and small sculptures from Maine artists. Entries were juried by Bob Keyes, the Editorial Director at Colby College and Chair of the Maine Arts Commission. This is perhaps BRAF's premiere, not to be missed, event. ARTinME 2024 kicks off with an Opening Reception (public welcome) at the BRAF Gallery on Saturday, October 5th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and it runs through November 9th. Gallery open hours are Thursday - Sunday, 10-5 pm, except holidays (open Halloween).  We thank Bristol Marine/Boothbay Shipyard for sponsoring the 2024 show. Visit the EVENTS/NEWS page for more information, a letter from the Juror, and the List of accepted artwork.  Works not in the show should be picked up on October 1 & 2 10:00 am - 2 pm and we appreciate immensely the efforts and talents of all who participated.

At the only juried exhibit that BRAF sponsors, juror Bob Keyes noted that “I was enthused—and humbled--by the energy of the art submitted, the adventure in styles and media, and the sheer number of large-scale paintings and three-dimensional work that artists muscled from their studios and hauled to Boothbay Harbor for consideration. It’s fun working big, but it’s not easy.”

Artists from all over Maine submitted more than 100 works for ARTinME 2024 with David Estey, Carolyn Gabbe, Tammy Ricker, Nathan Allard, and Claudette Gamache among them. Awards for Best in Show, Second and Third Place, and three Honorable Mentions will be announced at the opening reception on October 5th.

The Boothbay Region Art Foundation is not your typical Gallery...

In 1963, twenty-six founding artists desired to leave a legacy to the Boothbay Region that had given them inspiration and livelihoods.  They developed the model of selling their artwork to help fund a Boothbay Region High School Scholarship Foundation to assist local college bound graduates with an interest in artistic endeavors.  Over a half a century later, the members, artists, and volunteers of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation Inc., a 501{c}(3) charitable and educational nonprofit organization, continue that operational model through the Gallery. The artists still return a portion of their sale proceeds to the Foundation to support the Gallery, the inclusion of K-12 Art Shows, and the BRAF Scholarships.  Your donations will also contribute to this long legacy of giving back, inspired by the bounty of the Boothbay Region.
